Rich text to Markdown
Turn formatted text into clean Markdown, free in your browser with no sign-up. Copy from a web page, Word, Google Docs or an email and paste it here. Headings, bold, italic, lists, links and tables carry over.
How to use it
- Select and copy the text in the app it's in.
- Click into the box above and paste with Ctrl+V, or Cmd+V on a Mac.
- The Markdown tab opens with the result, ready to copy or download.
Have a file rather than text to copy? Use Word to Markdown for a .docx, or PDF to Markdown. For a page in a wiki, Confluence to Markdown and Notion to Markdown understand those apps' layouts.
What it keeps
- Headings, bold, italic and strikethrough
- Nested lists, links and quotes
- Tables, as Markdown tables
Where it struggles
- Colours, fonts and sizes have no Markdown form, so they're dropped
- Pictures copied from an app may not come with the text
- .rtf files can't be opened; paste the text instead
Frequently asked questions
Nothing changed when I pasted. Why?
The app may have put only plain text on the clipboard, or you pasted without formatting. Copy again and paste with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
